Tanks, boats and planes take over the Fair City

A fine selection of model aircraft laid out ready for the judging.

AEROPLANES, TANKS, ships and even submarines could be seen in Perth over the weekend.

Security was understandably tight as hundreds of military vehicles—many of them carrying powerful weapons—drove, flew and sailed into town.

If you find that hard to believe you may be even more surprised to learn that they were all eventually crammed into the Dewar’s Centre.

Thankfully transport chaos was kept to a minimum as all the wonderful creations were scaled miniatures, brought to the Fair City for Scotland’s premier model show.

Including the Scottish National Model Championships, the two-day event was attended by model clubs from all over Scotland and the north of England.

Several foreign visitors also made the pilgrimage to Perth.

All of the modellers present were involved in building scale replicas of aircraft, ships, tanks, military vehicles, science fiction subjects and lots more.

Club displays showed the work of members, who were only too happy to answer questions and give helpful advice.

Many families took time out to visit the event and left with grand plans of their own.

Throughout the weekend a series of modelling demonstrations was given by experts.

However, the undoubted highlight of the show for many was the competition.

More than 40 different classes featured, ranging from tiny scale aircraft to large dioramas from both senior and junior modellers.

Everyone was in agreement that the weekend had been a great success and several enthusiastic newcomers to modelling will no doubt be showing off their latest creations next year after being spurred into action during a visit to the Fair City show.
