Shop worker assaulted and robbed

A female sales assistant in a Monifieth shop was assaulted and robbed yesterday morning.

The robber entered R. S. McColl’s at 75 High Street shortly before noon and managed to escape with some cash.

He was described as being in his early 30s, around six feet tall and of thin build.

He has mousy-brown hair cut short, noticeably dark eyes, a scar on the right side of his face and was clean-shaven.

He is thought to have been wearing a white T-shirt with white trousers or jeans.

It is not known in which direction the man made his getaway after leaving the shop.

The shop assistant is not thought to have been injured but was left badly shaken by the experience.

Police last night appealed for witnesses but refused to release any more details.

In particular, they declined to say whether the robber was armed or what the nature of the assault had been.

Neither would they give any indication as to how much cash had been stolen.

Anyone who can help police with their inquiries is asked to contact police divisional headquarters at Forfar, telephone 302200.
