RISING HURDLE star Eilidh Child has been awarded the George Mortimer sports bursary by Perth and Kinross Sports Council. The £250 annual award is to help the recipient continue in their sport during the move to further education—in Eilidh’s case, at Moray House in Edinburgh where she has been accepted to train as a PE teacher. The 17-year-old Kinross hurdler is no stranger to picking up awards in her career in Scottish Schools, Scottish and British AAA age-group titles. Earlier this year she was voted the Highland Spring young sportsperson of the year. In nominating Eilidh for the bursary, Derek Morris, of Kinross High School, where she is a sixth-year pupil, said, “In sporting terms, Eilidh has been an outstanding ambassador for the school. Aside from being an able performer in a variety of sports, she is a young woman who sets a perfect example in the way she conducts herself both on and off the field of play.” |
