ATC cadets parade new colours in city

DUNDEE CITY centre was the scene of an impressive Air Training Corps parade yesterday.

More than 200 cadets and staff members from Dundee and Central Scotland Wing ATC took part in the dedication ceremony for their new banner.

The banner was presented to the Wing by the friends and colleagues of the late Flight Lieutenant Graeme Welsh.

Flt Lt Welsh served the ATC for more than 30 years, most of that time with Dundee’s 2450 (Dudhope) Squadron in Strathmore Avenue.

When he retired from uniformed service, he continued to play a part in the ATC as a civilian instructor with 2345 (Leuchars) Squadron. The parade made its way from Dundee High School to Dundee Parish Church (St Mary’s) where, in line with military tradition, the banner was blessed during a service, which was conducted by the Deputy Wing Chaplain, the Rev Graham Bruce.

It was then presented to the banner party, made up of cadets from Fl Lt Welsh’s two former squadrons.

After the service, the banner was marched from the church to City Square, where Lord Provost John Letford took the salute.

The Lord Provost then was host at a civic reception for the ATC in the City Chambers.
