Saints’ new boy in friendly squad

Jordan Tait.

ST JOHNSTONE have welcomed former Arbroath defender Jordan Tait to McDiarmid Park, writes Ian Roache.

Tait could feature this afternoon in the home friendly against Leicester City alongside another trialist.

The Perth men have had their plans disrupted by injuries and will be without Kevin Rutkiewicz, Mark Baxter, Lee Hardy and Paul Bernard, while David Hannah is still a doubt after suffering a dead leg against Livingston in midweek.

Young players Steve McManus, Andy Jackson and Kevin Moon are included in the pool.

“It is not ideal to be going into this game without these guys,” said manager John Connolly.

“I was hoping to put out the team that I envisaged as my starting line-up when the season starts week but that won’t be possible.

“The important thing is that the players who miss out against Leicester are ready for next Saturday’s game against Hamilton Accies (in the Bell’s Cup).”

Leicester’s squad will include well-known faces like Martin Keown, Dion Dublin, Keith Gillespie, Scotland midfielder Gareth Williams and former Kilmarnock man Peter Canero.
