Men angry, says serving soldier

A SERVING Scottish Division soldier claimed yesterday that top brass are in for a shock when the consultation period for regimental reform ends early next month.

The soldier, who we are not naming, said many men across the six threatened regiments have made their views crystal clear.

Some are angry that proposed changes were presented to them as a fait accompli, with little or no opportunity to register dissent.

“They gave us the choice all right, it was more or less one highland and one lowland regiment. We were not given the chance to state a preference for the status quo,” he said

“The only way we could express that view was in the ‘any other comments’ section and I can say that most of the men have been very direct. What worries us is that if we tick answers to their questions, the bosses can say that we voted for changes.”
