Speculation over former Tory leader

THERE IS strong speculation that former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith is to take a high-profile role in the campaign to save The Black Watch and Scotland’s other threatened regiments.

The former Scots Guardsman, whose family come from Perthshire, has already criticised Government plans to cut the Scottish infantry.

In the next few weeks, Mr Duncan Smith is expected to lend more heavyweight support to the campaigns being run by Save the Scottish Regiments and other organisations.

Mr Duncan Smith, who was succeeded as Tory leader by Michael Howard, this week said there ought to have been greater resistance to proposed defence cuts by senior military figures.
