Every Doig will have their day

A DUNFERMLINE man is attempting to reunite everyone on the planet with the surname Doig next month.

The first world gathering of the Doig clan takes place over three days at the Smith Art Gallery and Museum in Stirling, starting on November 5.

Presiding at the reunion will be “Top Doig” Ken Doig, of California, who has traced all Doigs on file and will be offering to chart family trees.

Also expected to make an appearance are the grandsons of the Arbroath FC player Ned Doig, who made his debut as goalkeeper in 1886. To date he is the only player in the club’s 125-year history to have been capped for Scotland while on Arbroath’s books.

The organiser is Kerr Doig, who has sponsored an exhibition at the Stirling gallery to coincide with the event.

Mr Doig said, “Historic Stirling is well suited for this event, being in close proximity to the ancient burial place of the Dog’s (Doigs) of Kilmadock, Doune Castle, Thornhill and Bannockburn.”

Anyone who has the name Doig, or is related to a Doig, and wants to attend the gathering is asked to contact Kerr Doig on 01383 737508 or check the website www.doig.net
