| Wedding even more odd than planned | |||

WHAT STARTED off as an unconventional wedding reception became even more memorable for Dundee United fanatics Greg Munro and Karen Gunn, who tied the knot in bizarre circumstances at Gretna on Saturday. They had arranged their marriage round their team’s Scottish Cup tie at Raydale Park, home of third division side Gretna, with the reception being the match itself. In keeping with the unconventional nature of the wedding, Greg’s pal Alasdair Doig was Karen’s “bridesmaid.” But, driving south on Friday night, the couple ended up in the middle of a landslide after taking a wrong turning and had to be rescued by police. To make matters worse, Greg and Karen and the rest of their party did not arrive at their hotel until an hour before the ceremony was due to take place, after finding out that the match had been postponed and their planned “reception” would have to be rescheduled. The wedding went off without a hitch, however, and, despite the traumatic events of the previous day, and the disappointment over the postponement, the St Andrews couple were determined to enjoy the rest of their day with a few drinks. “Our reception was going to be at the match so we didn’t really have any plans for the rest of the afternoon,” Greg said. “We just went to the local pub and took it from there. “Unfortunately we can’t stay on for the replay on Tuesday. That’s the night we’ve organised a do at my folks’ place in Cupar. “When we were driving down we ended up on a country road in torrential rain and turned a corner into a landslide across the road. “Alasdair was driving and we ended up right in the middle of it. His car was stuck and the police came and organised somebody to tow it away. We ended up in a hotel in Langholm, where we spent the night. “We got a call to tell us the game was off, and it was about 11 am before we got to the hotel where we were meant to be staying. It would have been good if the match was on but it was a pretty memorable day anyway.” |
