Male to appear in court

Karen.

A 17-YEAR-OLD will appear at Cupar Sheriff Court today on a charge alleging the murder of Tayport girl Karen Dewar.

The 16-year-old was found dead in Tayport early on Friday morning.

She lived only a short distance away from where her body was found in a lane close to Tay Street.

Karen’s parents, Frank and Alison Dewar, were yesterday being comforted by family members and by police family liaison officers, and they asked that they be allowed to grieve in private at a tragic and very difficult time.

Mr and Mrs Dewar did issue a short statement on Saturday, however, and they said that Karen had many family and friends in Tayport, where she was brought up.

“She was a very friendly and loving person who would cause harm to no-one.

“She will be very sadly missed by everyone who knew her,” they said.

There was intensive police activity in Tayport on Friday, and the victim was formally identified only after a detailed forensic examination had taken place.

Police said a 17-year-old local male was in custody, and would appear at the sheriff court today.
