Swedish expert will give talk on TETRA

THE CONTROVERSIAL issue of TETRA masts will be the subject of a lecture at the Dewars Centre, Perth, on Wednesday.

Guest speaker Professor Olle Johansson, of the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, will be talking about the health effects on humans of electromagnetic fields and radiation from his 20 years of research.

The lecture begins at 7.30 pm and has been organised by Scottish Action on TETRA, set up to campaign and co-ordinate action by communities across Scotland on the issue.

Earlier in the day, Professor Johansson will join the Scottish Action on TETRA team in addressing MSPs in the Scottish Parliament.

Commenting on the parliament briefing, Green MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife Mark Ruskell said, “This will provide a much needed opportunity for MSPs to become better informed about unresolved health concerns surrounding mobile phone technologies and other sources of electro-magnetic radiation.

“Other European countries, including Sweden, take this issue more seriously than we do and I am very pleased that Scottish Action on TETRA have secured the services of Professor Johansson to explain why we should be more concerned about the emissions of mobile phone masts.”

TETRA stands for terrestrial trunked radio and is the basis of the new public sector radio system, operated by O2 under the brand name airwave. Anyone with concerns can visit Scottish Action on TETRA’s website at www.scottishactionon- tetra.org.uk.
