Killer at large 100 days on

Alastair and Veronica Wilson.

It is now over 100 days since banker Alistair Wilson was gunned down on the doorstep of his home in the seaside town of Nairn.

Yesterday marked the 100th day of the investigation, following the November 28 murder.

Huge police activity and the input from other specialised forensic and ballistics experts has failed to come closer to the murderer—despite the murder weapon being recovered from a drain by council workmen.

The officer leading the investigation, DCI Peter MacPhee, said yesterday that the momentum of the inquiry will be maintained and he pledged to sustain the appropriate levels of resources until the case is solved.

Last Friday was a particularly difficult day for Veronica Wilson and her family as it would have been Mr Wilson’s 31st birthday.

Having drawn a blank in establishing a motive or a possible identity of the killer, the investigation team will this week be concentrating on Mr Wilson’s earlier years.

They will be speaking to his friends and colleagues from university and elsewhere.

A review team from Grampian Police, led by a senior officer, is expected to stay for at least another fortnight.

As to the murder weapon recovered from a drain in Seabank Road, DCI MacPhee said further ballistic results were awaited.

Although it is known to have been an automatic pistol, police have disclosed little other information.

The team is continuing to carry out inquiries in relation to the origin of the weapon and ammunition used in the murder.

Police still need to know more of people and vehicles about on the fateful night and DCI MacPhee made a further appeal to the public for information in relation to these unidentified males and vehicles.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the incident room at Nairn on 01667 459290 or alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Crimestoppers has already offered a reward of up to £10,000 to bring the murderer to justice.
