YOUNGSTERS AT a Perth primary school gave their support yesterday to helping children and their families in the developing world.

As part of a class project, P5 at Moncrieffe used Fairtrade ingredients to make snacks that will be sold to the rest of the school.

The aims of Fairtrade—to promote a fairer trading system that benefits producers in developing countries by ensuring they are paid a fair price for their goods—have been very much in the news.

Last month Perth and Kinross councillors unanimously passed a motion declaring the authority’s intent to have Perth officially designated a Fairtrade zone.

The Fairtrade mark is awarded to products that meet a strict set of criteria such as decent wages or no child or forced labour.
