Pavilion boosts Blue Flag bid

A PEPPERMINT green paint job may help Montrose beach win coveted Blue Flag status.

The Traill Pavilion has been given an eye-catching exterior make-over as part of an general upgrade of the whole building.

In last year’s Seaside Awards scheme, Montrose beach was judged the most improved in the UK. The improvements to the pavilion are among the steps taken by Angus Council down the road towards meeting Blue Flag criteria.

The pavilion and Traill Drive, the road opened in 1912 to link the beach area with the rest of the town, are named after the brothers John and David Traill, whose father was a local schoolmaster.

Both brothers prospered, John rising to become head of a large firm of steamship owners in Melbourne and David, of West Bromwich, making his mark in the banking profession.

In the early 1900s they donated £2100 to be invested in the improvement and beautification of their native town.
