‘Extremely bad’ weather strikes

TAYSIDE POLICE moved swiftly to close the A93 at Glenshee last night as snow and high winds made driving conditions hazardous.

Police described the weather as “extremely bad” and said the road would probably remain closed overnight.

High winds also caused a number of accidents on the A90 between Aberdeen and Dundee, yesterday.

Grampian Police issued warnings to drivers, especially those in high sided vehicles, of the high winds after three vehicles were blown over.

At around 2.40 pm a lorry was blown over on the southbound carriageway about three miles south of Stonehaven and temporarily blocked one lane.

At around 2.50 pm, on the A90, a white van flipped on to its side about five miles south of Stonehaven on the A90 just north of the Kinneff turn-off.

Ten minutes later a lorry was blown over into a field on the A90 just north of Laurencekirk.

None of the drivers was badly injured.
