Young players in semi chance

FORFAR’S YOUNGSTERS will be given a chance to impress in the Loons’ Forfarshire Cup semi-final with Angus neighbours Brechin City at Station Park this evening.

After Saturday’s hard-fought league stalemate with Morton, boss Brian Fairley plans to allow some of his top team men a rest ahead of another crucial weekend trip.

“Stranraer will be another tough game for us, so I think I’ll be looking at playing some of the under-19s for this one,” said Fairley.

The match kicks off at 7.30 pm with ticket prices reduced to £4 for adults and £2 for OAPs and juveniles.

Meanwhile, the strength of Brechin’s promotion contending squad will be in evidence in tonight’s clash.

Manager Ian Campbell’s mind is on securing the final point that will guarantee promotion and some players will be rested, but he can call up fringe players who may yet play key roles in the chase for the league title.

Ally Mitchell is fighting back to match fitness while Jamie Smith, Davie White, Kevin Byers, Chris Jackson, Roddy Black and Stuart Callaghan are all pushing for places.

“They may not have been playing regularly, but they could walk into any team in the division,” said Campbell.

“Tonight’s game is important to us and for these players it certainly beats training.”
