£75,000 of heroin seized by police

POLICE NETTED one of the largest ever hauls of heroin in east Fife on Tuesday.

The seizure of £75,000 of the drug was made in the Cupar area as part of a major drugs crackdown by Fife police.

The drug squad made the haul of the class A drug during an operation in the area and a man has been reported in connection with the seizure.

Head of drug operations Neil Kerr explained the significance of removing such a large quantity of heroin out of harm’s way.

He said, “This is a significant seizure and one of the largest ever to be made in this area. These drugs would have had a significant adverse affect on local communities and we are delighted to have been able to take them out of the supply chain.”

The force is also backing the “Drug Dealers Don’t Care Campaign” which is calling on communities to give information on the drug dealers in their area through Crimestoppers.

Mr Kerr also praised members of the community for helping police and vowed to keep up the battle against drug dealers.

He continued, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public for their assistance in this and other significant drug seizures.

“The information they supply is a vital element in catching the dealers and preventing the misery they bring.

“I would also like reassure residents that Fife police and its drugs squad will continue to step up the fight against drug dealers in Fife.”

Since the start of the campaign in February police in north-east Fife have netted a bumper haul of drugs.

The initiative has seen approximately £24,000 worth of class A, B and C drugs seized in the area and money totalling approximately £16,500 has been picked up.

Mr Kerr added, “This initiative is ongoing in the local area so we continue to need people to be the eyes and ears of the police. There are many suspicious things to watch out for including frequent callers at houses, who only visit for a short period of time.

“Anyone can report information by phoning our drugs hotline number on 0800 137 121 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
