History brought to life

Rae McGhee as parlour maid Jenny Douglas shows Scott Clark, Ben Wightman and Jemma Smith, all of Luncarty, how she would have cleaned the copper pots with lemon and salt in the old kitchen in 1842 for the visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to Scone Palace.

EVENTS WHICH shaped Scotland’s history are being brought to life at Scone Palace.

In an effort to capture the imagination of visitors to the palace and estate owned by the Earl of Mansfield, characters connected with Scone are being re-created to tell their tale.

Scone was the capital of the Pictish kingdom 1500 years ago and the centre of Celtic Christianity.

It has also been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of kings.

The palace was immortalised in Shakespeare’s Macbeth and was once home to the stone of Scone.

Over the summer there will be a series of “living history” events based on the life and residents of the palace throughout the centuries.
