Schoolboy dies after incident in Glenrothes

A 15-YEAR-OLD Glenrothes boy has died after an incident outside the town’s YMCA on Friday night.

Stefan Drummond of Reid Place died in hospital after the incident at about 10 pm.

Officers from the nearby police station raced to the scene after the alarm was raised and found the schoolboy lying unconscious on the ground.

He was rushed by ambulance to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital where he later died.

A 16-year-old boy, also from Glenrothes, was arrested in connection with Stefan’s death, but was released on the instructions of the Procurator Fiscal at Kirkcaldy pending further inquiries.

It is understood that he has not been charged but is due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Thursday.

News of Stefan’s death spread quickly and floral tributes were placed on the ground as scenes of crime officers carried out a fingertip search of the area on Saturday. Grieving relatives and friends, many weeping openly, comforted each other.

Yesterday, police urged anyone who has any information relating to the incident to contact them on 01592 251111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
