Marathon marathon kicks off

Friends wave Phil off from Discovery Point.

DUNDEE HERITAGE Trust finance manager Phil Turner set off from Discovery Point yesterday on the first leg of a “marathon” 10-day tour of Scotland.

He completed a gruelling circuit of Dundee before heading to Glasgow to prepare for the first stage of the four-day West Highland Way event.

After spending four demanding days running the West Highland Way, Phil should be in Fort William shortly after lunch on Monday.

But his journey does not end there, as he will return to the east coast to spend the next five days running in Angus, Perthshire, Aberdeen, Fife and Dundee.

He hopes his epic will end on June 18 at Discovery Point at around 1 pm.

Phil is hoping to raise substantial funds for Caring for Kids and the heritage trust.

He has secured sponsorship and support from a number of businesses including Hilton International, who are providing him with accommodation.

C. J. Lang are supplying water, energy drinks and bananas and funds have already been received from Wright Health Group, Michelin Tyre, Muirfield Contracts, Dand Carnegie & Co and Burns & Harris and a number of individuals.

Running one marathon is a significant achievement for most people but to go through such an ordeal for 10 consecutive days is an amazing feat. However, Phil says it is something he wants to do to raise funds for these needy charities, and also as a finale to his running career.
