FRIENDS AND family members of Mrs Alexina Moir gathered at the Lunan Court nursing home in Arbroath’s Albert Street yesterday to help her celebrate her 100th birthday. Among those commemorating Mrs Moir’s milestone were Angus Provost Bill Middleton and Lord Lieutenant of Angus, Mrs Georgiana Osborne, who read out a telegram from the Queen. Predeceased many years ago by her husband and, more recently, by her daughter, Mrs Moir has been a resident at Lunan Court for around three years. In her younger days she worked in the textile industry at Francis Webster’s Alma Works. She and her daughter lived together for many years in Dishlandtown Street before moving to sheltered housing at Adam Cargill Court. Lunan Court’s Debbie Cargill, who organised Mrs Moir’s party, said she was one of the home’s best-loved characters. “She’s still hale and hearty and is one of our most well-respected and liked residents,” she said. As well as the telegram Mrs Moir was also presented with a number of gifts including flowers, a knee rug and toilet- ries. |
