DUNDEE’S GREEN spaces were being shown off yesterday in the final round of judging for the Beautiful Scotland In Bloom 2005 contest.

The city is up for the large city prize, which will be awarded next month, and is competing against Edinburgh and last year’s winner, Aberdeen. Following a presentation at City Chambers, the judges went on a tour including the city’s main parks, along with the Howff, McManus Galleries, the Barnhill rock garden, Broughty Ferry esplanade, the Dundee University campus and several roadside floral displays.

The competition has been run annually since 1967. Entrants are judged not only on their horticulture, but on cleanliness, waste minimisation, sustainability, community involvement and environmental quality.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Edzell in September.
