CENTRAL SCOTLAND policewoman Norma Graham will become the most senior female figure in the country when she takes over from Fife Deputy Chief Constable David Mellor on his retirement in November.

Mrs Graham (43) is Assistant Chief Constable responsible for all operational matters in Central.

She brings to her new post 23 years’ service, having started her career in Lothian and Borders Police, progressing through the ranks to become Detective Chief Superintendent in charge of the CID. She also spent time working at HM Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland, where she was the lead officer responsible for the inspection of all Scottish forces.

Mrs Graham, who is married and lives in the Lothians, said yesterday, “I am delighted to be taking up the post of Deputy Chief Constable in Fife. I look forward to the exciting challenges which lie ahead and working with the Chief Constable in delivering a high-quality policing service to the people of Fife

“I am very proud to have served in Central Scotland Police and it has been a privilege working with officers and staff. Their professionalism and commitment has been outstanding.”

Welcoming Mrs Graham, Chief Constable Peter Wilson said, “Norma is well regarded in the police service and will be a welcome member of the chief officer team.”

“While Mr Mellor has made a major contribution in Fife, we are fortunate to have someone of Mrs Graham’s calibre coming to take his place. ”

Chairman of Fife Council community safety committee Andrew Keddie added, “It is clear from her career path to date that Mrs Graham will bring a real breadth of experience to Fife. Her clear focus on communities will reinforce the good work which the force has been doing in recent years.”
