By Graham Brown ANGUS COUNCIL education chiefs have spread a net in a bid to stave off a winter shortage of supply teachers in the area’s secondary schools. Job opportunities are being advertised today for a pool of teachers to ensure there is sufficient supply both to meet the winter peak in demand and provide adequate year-round cover. “We rely on having supply staff available to help when teachers are unwell or on maternity leave, but like most authorities while we have enough primary supply teachers the secondary sector can be more stretched,” said a council spokesperson. “We know that as things change so quickly in education teachers who have been away from teaching for even a few years may be anxious about developments in ICT or even about the content of courses within their subject. “That is why we are happy to provide them with any refresher training needed to support their return to teaching.” Secondary supply teachers registered with Angus Council have already received a questionnaire about professional development opportunities with the aim of providing training that best suits their needs and their circumstances. Any teacher with secondary qualifications who would like to find out more about the opportunities for supply teaching in Angus should contact education support officer Linda Wolfe on (01307) 473234. |
