Rafters get sinking feeling

One of the rafts encounters trouble.

CULROSS RESIDENTS refused to have their spirits dampened during a charity raft race on Saturday, despite two vessels failing to finish.

Ironically the race, in which one of the rafts sunk, was in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Not surprisingly the Bessie Bar-Racuda, which was thrown together in less than a day, proved unseaworthy near the start of the race.

Four rafts took part, meaning only half actually made it round the old pier.

Camilla Garrett-Jones, whose husband Ken steered his raft to victory, said residents hoped to hold the event again next year.
