Big names gather for Dunhill golf

EUROPE’S leading golfers and famous enthusiasts from the world of sport and entertainment will arrive in Fife and Angus next week for the Dunhill Links Championships.

Playing alongside professionals such as Colin Montgomerie, Padraig Harrington, Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke will be Michael Douglas, Kyle MacLachlan and Jodie Kidd.

Past and present Ashes heroes Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss and Ian Botham will also be teeing off with Boris Becker, Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Steve Redgrave.

The four-day championship being held at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie starts on Thursday.

With $5 million in prize money and Ryder Cup points at stake, Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher will be defending his Dunhill Links title.

Also battling for one of the biggest prizes on the European Tour will be 2001 winner Paul Lawrie, Ian Poulter and David Howell.

The overseas challenge will be led by Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn and Australian Nick O’Hern.
