By Graeme Dey ARBROATH LAST night appointed John McGlashan as their new manager. McGlashan takes over from Harry Cairney, who quit the Lichties hot seat last weekend. The former Gayfield midfielder yesterday accepted an offer to return to the club and was last night arranging his departure from junior outfit Dundee Violet. McGlashan has secured the job at the second attempt, having missed out on being promoted from the playing staff last season, when Cairney replaced Steve Kirk. Working in Arbroath and living as he does in nearby Carnoustie, he fits the bill perfectly for the Lichties, who had their sights set on appointing a locally-based manager. However, chairman John Christison reckons he’ll bring more to the post than simply being near at hand. “John is an enthusiastic person and hopefully that will rub off on the players on and off the park,” he said. “The fact he knows the set up at Gayfield is an advantage and we believe the experience he has gleaned in management, albeit at junior level and for a relatively short time, will be of benefit.” |
