Young girl seriously injured

AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl was seriously injured in a road accident in Alyth yesterday.

The girl was crossing Airlie Street at around 1 pm when she was involved in a collision with a green Rover 214 car.

She was trapped underneath the vehicle for a short time, and although Tayside Fire and Rescue were called she had been freed before they arrived.

The youngster, who has not been named, was taken by ambulance under police escort to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

She was found to have sustained head and internal injuries, together with a fractured leg, and underwent surgery.

Hospital staff in Dundee confirmed that her condition last night was serious.

Airlie Street was closed to all traffic while police accident investigators examined the scene.
