Dundee woman scoops huge win

A DUNDEE woman was still in a state of shock last night after scooping a quarter of a million pounds playing bingo at the city’s Nethergate Mecca Playhouse.

The lucky 22-year-old, who works for Dundee City Council but who asked not to be identified, plans to buy a house, a car and go on holiday with her winnings.

Speaking yesterday, she said she thought that it would never happen to her.

She said, “One day you wake up skint in the morning and by the evening you have quarter of a million pounds. I just can’t take it all in and am still in shock.”

She won the National Bingo Game prize of £250,000 plus a further regional prize of £1200 and a club prize of £191 on Sunday night.

She was the first person from 500 clubs across the UK to call her winning numbers.

The young winner has been a member of the club since April 2003.

Georgina Palmer, press officer for the National Bingo Game, said, “The woman called in 39 numbers—the fewest out of 500 clubs that were playing nationwide.

“This must be the biggest National Bingo Game win Dundee has ever had.

“The lucky winner from Dundee was obviously a very happy lady last night and was very excited about her win of £250,000.”

Tom Docherty, general manager at Mecca Dundee Playhouse, said, “It’s always fantastic to have a big winner in the club as it creates a great atmosphere.

“When she called on the number 39 the whole club applauded as they knew it would be a big win.

“The claim was validated and the whole club erupted in applause again. Everyone was ecstatic for her.”

“As it happens this was her first visit to bingo all year so some would say it was fate maybe!”
