Pupils tackle puppet task

Making a lifesize puppet of yourself would be a daunting task for many an adult, never mind a primary school pupil.

But the task was tackled with relish by 54 pupils at Luthermuir Primary yesterday when a Working With Wood workshop taught them skills in handling tools, taking measurements and applying that information, and the importance of team work.

By the end of the day, under the guidance of craftsman Kenny Grieve, the youngsters were well on their way to completing their tasks.

It is hoped to have them decorated in time for going on display at the school’s open evening in December when parents will have the challenge of recognising their “puppets.”

“Some of the youngest children worked with older pupils to drill, saw and wire up the limbs,” said head teacher Marjory Smith.

“The workshop is the latest project to be funded by the PTA and it has been a fun way of teaching the pupils lots of skills.”
