THOUSANDS OF pounds were raised for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign in Scotland as around 400 guests from the worlds of politics, business and entertainment attended the second Fife Ball, which was held at the St Andrews Bay Golf Resort and Spa. The event included an auction featuring a number of outstanding and unique items, including a pin flag from the US Masters golf course in Augusta, Georgia, donated by golfing legend Billy Casper. The pin flag was signed by 26 of the 27 living US Masters champions including Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle, Billy Casper and Seve Ballesteros, making it a priceless piece of golfing history. Other items on offer included a limited signed print donated by Jack Vettriano; a unique Steiff bear; a specially commissioned Wemyss Ware pig; and a trip to France on a private aircraft to collect bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau, returning to St Andrews Bay for dinner. Among those attending were the Lord Lieutenant of Fife Margaret Dean, actress Eileen McCallum and Philip Butcher, chief executive of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, and the campaign symbol Rupert The Bear. There are about 60 different types of muscular dystrophy and related neuro- muscular conditions, and the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign funds research which contributes significantly to global attempts to help combat them. |
