By Chris Hardy MONTROSE’S NEW manager, Eddie Wolecki, spoke yesterday of his plans to make the town proud of its club. Team ethic will be the keystone of his managership but it will also be based on improvement through attention to the specific requirements of individual players. Training sessions and match preparation will meet the needs of players, ranging from energy systems, hydration and nutrition to self-confidence and tactics. Wolecki met some of the players at training on Tuesday and last night and is still in the process of assessing the squad he has inherited. “Because of injuries and absences I have still to see everyone,” said Wolecki. “The important thing at the moment is to get back a bit of stability and concentrate on performance on the park.” Wolecki said his all-encompassing approach to the game was based on thorough research and had been used by him during his four-and-a-half years with Lochee United, now one of the top junior sides in the country. “The results are there for all to see. It is all for the benefit of the players and to improve them individually. “This is my first step into senior management but it’s not a huge risk. “In my years at Lochee United I have encountered the same problems I’ll face at Montrose. “I have confidence in my own ability, Montrose have excellent facilities and I have identified one or two areas I can improve on right away.” The new Links Park manager also wants to tap into the footballing resources of the area so that his energies are not focused on player hunting and he can concentrate on managing the club. Ewan Peacock has come with him from Lochee United and will be the coach who implements Woleckie’s plans. The manager has also confirmed that “an offer is on the table” for someone with local connections to be his assistant. “He is mulling it over,” said Wolecki. “It is not just about Montrose FC, it is about the whole community. “I want the town to be proud of their club and I am meeting someone this afternoon about setting up coaching courses and community development. “Hopefully the players will be first to see a difference and feel better, sharper and more confident. “The supporters have been patient for 10 years and I am confident we will drive the club forward.” |
