Two children seriously hurt in A90 car crash

TWO CHILDREN were in a serious condition in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, last night following a single-car accident on the A90 near Longforgan.

Police, firefighters and an ambulance and trauma team from Ninewells raced to the scene around 4.15 pm to find a grey Renault Scenic on its side.

The vehicle had left the nearside of the east-bound carriageway and turned over.

Luckily a passing doctor stopped to provide assistance, before the arrival of the emergency services.

In a separate Perthshire accident a teenage girl was taken to hospital with serious back injuries after a crash yesterday evening on the A9 near the Greenloaning junction.

The northbound A9 was closed for several hours as a result.

In the A90 accident paramedics attended to two children who were passengers in the car at the scene, before taking them to Ninewells.

Both children—a 10-year-old boy and a girl of nine—had been removed from the vehicle before the arrival of firefighters who assisted the trauma team and paramedics.

They helped stabilise the vehicle and provided lighting while medical staff got to work.

The accident forced the closure of a section of the A90 and traffic was directed through Longforgan.

The teenager in the A9 accident had to be cut free from the car, a green Ford Mondeo.

It was the only vehicle involved in the accident, which happened around 6.30, and firefighters from Tayside and central divisions were involved.

The 15-year-old female passenger, who is believed to have serious back injuries, was taken by ambulance to Stirling Royal Infirmary. The female driver was shaken but unhurt. The A9 northbound was closed for several hours as a result of the accident.

Among the hundreds of vehicles delayed were the Aberdeen and Dundee United football club team buses returning from their matches in Motherwell and Kilmarnock respectively.

To get the traffic moving again police diverted vehicles along minor roads through Kinbuck and back out onto the A9 at Braco.
