Man due in court over death

POLICE WERE carrying out door-to-door inquiries yesterday after the death of a man in Kirkcaldy on Sunday.

A 42-year-old man, named as Brian Gourlay, died after an incident at his flat in Harris Drive at about 5 pm.

Police confirmed yesterday that a 23-year-old Kirkcaldy man was in custody in connection with the death and was expected to appear at the town’s sheriff court today.

Forensic teams were conducting searches in Mr Gourlay’s top-floor flat and the surrounding area for much of yesterday.

A police mobile incident unit was also set up in the street in the Templehall area of the town, and anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident is asked to get in touch with officers on 01592 251111 or contact their nearest police station.

Neighbours said Mr Gourlay lived alone but that his daughter and six-week-old grandchild lived next door to him.
