Interactive treats at Perth Concert Hall

IT administrator David Smout tries out the Threshold game.A UNIQUE arts project at Perth’s Concert Hall has lined up a feast of attractions for 2006.

Threshold, Scotland’s first dedicated exhibition space for digital public art, opened its doors in September.

Costing £500,000, it has already showcased new media commissions by local and international artists including Dalziel and Scullion.

Next year will see productions including Asteroids, Football, Lion and Philosophy, which runs until February 3 and First Person by Beverley Hood, which starts on April 29.

Also to be hosted will be Triggerhappy, a Scots premiere, and Sound Environment, a world premiere.

A spokeswoman said, “From now until May, our Threshold stage area becomes a digital playground for young and old to engage with some of the best artists’ games and sound toys with players.”

The pioneering artspace includes an interactive box at its entrance and even screens in the toilets.

There is also a bank of 22 screens dominating the foyer, Threshold Stage, a playground with flexible screens and interactivity, a trail of sound boxes embedded in the floor, and “an added visual delight” coming from the exterior dome of the building.

Coming acts at Perth Concert Hall include Perthshire folk singer Dougie MacLean, a Mozart and Burns day, a concert from Barbara Dickson and soul legend Alexander O’Neal, Jethro Tull, and the Drifters.
