THE OWNER of one of the oldest ice cream shops in Dundee, Lorenzo Isabella, has died aged 81. Known as Larry, he ran the Lorenzo Isabella confectioners and tobacconists in Strathmartine Road up until his death. The shop was opened in 1909 by his father, also Lorenzo, after he arrived in Scotland from Italy. Larry was born in Dundee and attended Downfield Primary School and Rockwell School. After leaving school he got a job at the Blackness Foundry and later worked for NCR. He took over management of the shop following his father’s death 35 years ago. Predeceased by his wife Flora, he is survived by his children Anne and Lawrence and two grandchildren. |
