THE FUNERAL service of Dunfermline and West Fife MP Rachel Squire took place at the town’s crematorium yesterday.

Ms Squire, who represented the area for 13 years, lost her battle against cancer last week.

She had been seriously ill for more than a year and suffered a stroke last June.

At her own request the service was kept private.

The mourners were led by her husband Allan, her family and close friends.

The only politicians to attend were the Chancellor Gordon Brown, Dunfermline West MSP Scott Barrie and the Labour MEP Catherine Stihler.

A memorial service for the popular MP is due to take place in Dunfermline next month.
