| Lucky escape after rush-hour A9 crash | |||

A PAIR of Perthshire motorists walked away with nothing more than minor cuts and bruises following a rush-hour accident on the A9 north of Perth. A police spokeswoman said the car overturned shortly before 5 pm yesterday. “The car had ended up on its roof so you could certainly say the occupants were lucky to escape,” she remarked. “The incident occurred close to the Luncarty slip-road on the A9 and caused short delays for traffic,” she added. A fire brigade spokesman said specialist crew were quickly dispatched after reports of the dramatic incident, but were not required. “We received a call at 4.57 pm and a crew was sent to the scene,” he said. “However, on arrival we found that the vehicle’s two occupants had managed to free themselves without assistance.” The A9 was recently identified as the most dangerous stretch of road in Scotland. A vigorous campaign to have it upgraded to dual carriageway for its entire 112-mile length between Perth and Inverness is continuing. Meanwhile, the Scottish Executive is expected to start work on a grade-separated junction at Ballinluig—one of the A9’s most notorious accident black spots—later this year. |
