A 19-YEAR-OLD Broughty Ferry martial arts instructor has gained a worldwide title in the Instructor Of The Year Award 2005.

Jane Majendie of Barnhill beat off competition from instructors across the world to have the title bestowed on her by the Dragon Black Belt Academy International (DBBAI), which is based in Cambridge.

DBBAI founder, Grandmaster Mark Adlington, has been monitoring Jane’s progress over the past few years and decided to nominate her for the award.

Jane teaches the Tang Soo Do style of martial arts and works as head coach for sports development at Dundee City Council.

She is also the head instructor at Barnhill Tang Soo Do Kickboxing Club, where she teaches every week.

This title is the latest in a long list of achievements for Jane, which includes winning the Tang Soo Do European Championships in Inverness last year.

Tang Soo Do teaches mental and physical training involving co-ordinated agility, dynamic mobility and power, whole body endurance and special awareness to carry out complex body movements.

Her fiance Clive Johnston held the title in 2001. Together, they run private martial arts classes at Barnhill Primary School.

On gaining the title, Jane said, “It’s just amazing—I’m absolutely delighted as the association is massive and worldwide.”
