THE FAMILY of a Broughty Ferry woman, who has been missing from her home for five days, yesterday made a plea for information that could lead them to her whereabouts. Doreen Hay (60) left her home in Stracathro Terrace at about 12.45 pm on Saturday to meet up with her two sisters in Dundee city centre. But somewhere between boarding a bus in Broughty Ferry and her destination Doreen vanished. The police and her family, including her son and daughter, have been searching for clues but so far the trail has run cold. Her husband Pete said Doreen had been feeling out of sorts recently after retiring last month, and left without her medication. He has been frantic with worry and yesterday spoke of the very unusual nature of the disappearance. “Doreen is a quiet person and is very close to her family,” he said. “She has two close friends and we have been keeping in touch with them every day to see if she gets in touch, but she has not and that is the worrying thing. “She has been feeling not too well after retiring recently and regretting the decision and this has been the build up to it, I think. “We know that she got on the bus because the driver remembers her boarding, only he can’t remember where she got off. Police have been doing their best, but we really need to get the public involved to see if anyone has seen her.” Doreen is described as five foot one, with blonde short wavy hair and is slightly built. When she was last seen she was wearing a black knee-length woollen jacket, dark trousers and had a black leather handbag. A large-scale police inquiry is under way, with officers scanning city centre CCTV footage in the hope of picking up Mrs Hay’s movements after she left the bus. “Our investigations indicate that she didn’t get on the first bus in Strathmore Street, because it was fitted with CCTV,” said Inspector Steven Millar. “The second bus which came along doesn’t have CCTV, but the driver identified her. He said that she appeared to be wandering and didn’t know where she was going. Unfortunately, the bus became busy and the driver didn’t see where she got off.” |
