Teenager loses fight for life after crash

A FIFE TEENAGER has lost his fight for life after being injured in a road accident earlier this week.

James Mackie (18), of Mount Frost Place, Markinch, suffered grievous injuries when his black VW Golf collided with a digger on the main Kirkcaldy to Glenrothes road at 7 am on Wednesday.

Cut from the wrecked vehicle by firefighters, he was rushed to Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, and was later transfer to the Western General in Edinburgh where surgeons fought in vain to save the teenager.

He died on Thursday night.

James, a former pupil of St Columba’s R.C. High School, Dunfermline, was the only son of James and Karen Mackie.

James was described by his family as “a perfect son” who was very popular among friends and colleagues.

He left school at 16 and worked at Patterson Diesel at Woodend Industrial Estate, Cowdenbeath.

“His hobbies included his car, swimming, golf and keep fit—he attended a local gym regularly,” said a source close to the family. “His death will come as a shock to all who knew him.”
