A head-on crash near a Fife school claimed the life of a Cupar man yesterday.

John Williamson (49) was travelling home alone when his black Citroen AX was in collision with a white Mercedes Sprinter van on the A913 Cupar to Perth road, close to Dunbog Primary School, near Lindores, at around 4.30 pm.

It is understood that Mr Williamson, a property surveyor, lived at Burnside North, a few miles away. He is believed to have died at the scene.

The van driver, who was heading towards Perth, was treated for minor injuries at Perth Royal Infirmary.

The road was closed for four hours to allow emergency services to deal with the accident.

A police spokesman said, “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision or either of the vehicles on the A913 prior to the accident to contact us on 01592 251111.
