Women badly hurt as accident closes road

The crash scene.

THREE PEOPLE were injured, two seriously, in an accident yesterday on the Montrose-Brechin road close to the Montrose burgh boundary.

A green Peugeot 106 and a white Renault mini-bus were involved in a head-on collision on a stretch of the A935 close to Sleepyhillock cemetery shortly before 2 pm.

The two women occupants of the west-bound car were trapped in their seats and received treatment from paramedics and a passing doctor, before they were released from the wreckage by Tayside Fire Brigade.

The driver sustained serious facial injuries and her passenger received a serious head injury. Both were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

The male driver of the mini-bus suffered a minor injury and shock, but did not require hospital treatment.

The road was still closed at 5 pm to allow the accident investigation unit to complete its work.

This contributed to lengthy traffic jams along the length of the Montrose inner relief road, compounded by roadworks which have closed the major Brechin Road/Northesk Road junction along with temporary traffic lights in Northesk Road and the closure of Broomfield Road.
