Celebrating in style

Chef Dougie Macdonald helps Sophie Orvietani flip her pancake watched by fellow Kilgraston nursery pupils.

THE NURSERY children at Kilgraston School, Bridge of Earn, yesterday celebrated Shrove Tuesday in style with a lesson from professional chef Dougie Macdonald of international catering company Sodexho.

During his visit to the nursery, Dougie showed the girls and boys how to make a traditional pancake and demonstrated how to toss them.

Dressed in chef outfits, the youngsters soon got into the party mood and were able to compete to see who could toss their pancake the highest.

Nursery manager Dawn Anderson said, “We were delighted that Dougie joined us this pancake day. He was able to show the children the basic art of making a pancake as well as highlighting the fun that cooking can bring.”

“The children really enjoyed it and I expect many will go home to encourage and pester their parents to allow them to help more in the kitchen,” she added.

Dougie said, “It was a wonderful opportunity for me to see at first hand how enthusiastic the youngsters are at cooking.

“Recent research shows a growing number of mums and dads not having the time to give their children the pleasures of licking a spoon and helping in the kitchen and so it is crucial the younger generation be given as much encouragement and opportunities to experience the joys of the kitchen.”
