Grief over motorcycle fatality

Mr Normand.

THE TRAGIC loss of Fife man Alan Normand in a motorcycle accident at the weekend has stunned the small village of Leslie and brought expressions of grief from his fellow bikers.

Mr Normand (43) died after his Suzuki Hyabusa 1300 was involved in a collision with a car near Falkland on Sunday afternoon. His wife Maryellen, who was on pillion, was badly injured.

Born in Glenrothes, Mr Normand was brought up in Leslie and from an early age was passionate about just about anything with an engine.

A maintenance engineer to trade, his interest in cars and bikes meant he was out on bikes whilst a teenager and, later, was often fixing cars for friends and family.

He often took part in major rallies across the country and his loss was being mourned on bikers websites within a few hours of the news breaking.

Mrs Normand is now believed to be out of danger and will hopefully make a full recovery. The couple have two children, Amber (18) and Gary (17).
