THE CONVENTION of Scottish Local Authorities yesterday agreed to back Fife Council’s demands to abolish bridge tolls. Members voted to lend their support at the CoSLA convention in St Andrews. Councillor Anne McGovern, Fife’s administration leader, said, “If we want a consistent, logical, national policy that puts Fife and the east of Scotland on a level playing field when it comes to bridge tolls, then we have to send the strongest message possible to the minister.” She expressed “delight” at the convention vote. She continued, “Regardless of promises to review the economic and social effects of tolling we must and will continue to challenge what is an outright unfair and discriminatory policy. “I’d maintained that we wouldn’t allow the strength of feeling shown to go unnoticed and with CoSLA’s endorsement that message should be coming through to the Executive and the minister, even louder and clearer.” |
