Funeral of entertainer

THE FUNERAL of singer and entertainer Calum Kennedy is to be held tomorrow at 3 pm in St Columba’s Church of Scotland, St Vincent Street, Glasgow.

Mr Kennedy (77) had been ill for some time before his death on Saturday. A memorial service will be held in Aberdeen later.

Mr Kennedy achieved national fame in 1955 after winning the Mod gold medal in Aberdeen.

During the 1960s and 1970s Mr Kennedy became a household name through his show, Calum’s Ceilidh, on Grampian Television.

Mr Kennedy once owned the Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen and the Palace Theatre in Dundee.

He married Anne Gillies in 1953 and they had five daughters. His wife died in 1974. Thirteen years later he married Christine Wilson and they had one daughter.
