By Alan Wilson, Rocktalk writer MUSIC FANS will know on Monday which bands will be playing at the Radio 1 Big Weekend in Dundee, with stars from both sides of the Atlantic now confirmed for the event. The “secret” line-up will be revealed on the Chris Moyles breakfast show, and the station will also reveal details of how to apply for tickets. Fans desperate for tickets who have already registered on the website will receive details on how to apply for a pair of day tickets for the event, which takes place at Camperdown Park over the weekend of May 13 and 14. More than 20 acts are scheduled to appear at what will be the biggest live music event in the city’s history, and they will be joined by a host of top Radio 1 DJs including Chris Moyles, Jo Whiley, Scott Mills, Colin Murray and Edith Bowman. A spokesman said yesterday, “We’ve been very busy setting up Radio 1’s Big Weekend. “We’ve confirmed most of the artists and the line-up is looking very good. “We cannot tell you who they are yet—but expect some big stars from the UK and America, as well as cool new bands.” A total of 30,000 briefs will be available and, with applications expected to exceed half a million, a ballot will be drawn. Dundonians and those living in the Tayside area will be allocated the majority of the tickets, but music fans are expected to converge on the city from across the UK and the Continent. Meanwhile, young people in Dundee are also being given the chance to put their city in the national spotlight as part of the Big Weekend. The organisers are looking for budding writers, photographers and film-makers to assist with their coverage of the historic event.
