Strong City squad get chance to impress

BRECHIN GAFFER Michael O’Neill will have a wealth of talent to choose from for the home match against Queen of the South on Saturday.

Gary Bollan, struggling with calf trouble, is his only injury doubt as the new manager prepares to run the rule over players for next season's campaign.

While Bollan might make it, Danny Grainger will not, as he is suspended after picking up a straight red card against Hamilton last weekend.

And O’Neill gave a hint that he might not be looking at wholesale changes to the squad after settling in as boss following his appointment earlier this month.

“At first, looking from the outside, you would have maybe said there will be a huge outflow and influx of players in the summer," he explained yesterday.

“Two or three weeks into the job, I don’t think that will be on as big a scale as initially it might have seemed.

“I couldn’t put an exact figure on who will come and go, as we'll have to look at the options available.

“I’m assessing the current squad, to see where it needs to be improved or rebuilt, but my impressions have been good. There are a lot of good, quality players at the club.”

They will have the chance to impress the boss on home turf against the Doonhamers, who are looking to secure their first division future.

O’Neill went on, “While we are relegated, there is plenty to play for as individuals.

“Our guys are playing for their futures at the club and Queen of the South are playing for their survival.

“It’s nice to play a part in such a huge game and our guys will want to make sure Queen of the South don’t ensure their safety at Glebe Park.”
