65-year-old recipient of ASBO dies

IAN KERR, the oldest subject of an anti-social behaviour order in Dundee, has died. He was due to appear at the city’s sheriff court yesterday, but the case was not called.

The 65-year-old was a resident of Stirling Court Sheltered Housing, Rosebank Street, and was made the subject of an ASBO after a hearing at the civil court in March. This prohibited him from physically assaulting, physically or verbally abusing, threatening or intimidating anyone at Stirling Court, damaging property there, shouting, swearing, playing loud music or leaving threatening messages on the answering machine.

He was jailed in December for four months after admitting breaching the order by threatening two female residents. In February, he was fined and ordered to pay compensation to a male resident who he admitted punching.

A week ago, a case in which he was accused of breach of the peace was adjourned at the court. This was because the court granted an order that he should be taken to the Carseview Centre for an assessment of his mental health. He subsequently died in Ninewells Hospital last weekend.
